Natural Herbs

Herbs that lower your blood cholesterol levels are actually a fairly new science. In today's society, increased LDL cholesterol has become a major health issue. New ways to lower cholesterol naturally are researched by people of all over the world due to this. Because of the lack of side effects and contraindications, natural supplements to lower cholesterol levels are often preferred to their drug counterparts.

The number of potential treatments increases as research on cholesterol and triglycerides increases. Research on herbs that lower cholesterol is yet, still very young and developing, or at least that's what it shows on the timeline of herbal and traditional medicines.

But nowadays, it is harder to keep track of what people use to lower their cholesterol levels since they have more means to research on their own - like the internet for example. But still, research is still being conducted on each remedy and the treatments will be refined as results come in. Still, even with the lack of side effects and contraindications it is wise to consult a physician to have cholesterol checked before and during any treatment program.

Natural herbs

Mukul Myrrh Tree - Guggul

The stem of the mukul myrrh tree produces a yellowish resin called guggul. For centuries, this Indian herb has been used in Ayurvedic medicine as a supplement to lower cholesterol levels. Assisting with the breaking down of the LDL, it also seems to increase the uptake of cholesterol by the liver. For those who use about 25 milligrams of guggulsterone (the active ingredient in guggul extract) three times per day, studies have shown a potential decrease of 10 to 27 percent in cholesterol levels

Allium sativum - Garlic

As a supplement to reduce cholesterol levels in the blood, garlic has recently shown a promise, even though it has been used for thousands of years as a flavoring for foods. In the blood, garlic helps by reducing LDL and triglyceride levels. Also, the oxidation of LDL cholesterol is prevented. Cholesterol levels have been lowered with about 12 percent with a daily intake of garlic.

Terminalia arjuna - Arjuna

Another traditional herb that has been used for centuries is Arjuna. In order to treat many cardiovascular conditions Arjuna has shown lots of good results. Also, it helped preventing cholesterol build-ups in the coronary arteries, which can actually reduce the risk of coronary heart disease occurring with about 30 percent or even more.
